Oscar Valdez: NEW TRAINER, NEW RESOLVE, SAME WARRIOR MENTALITY EXHIBITED

By Tre Berry

This was WBO Featherweight Champion Oscar Valdez (25-0-0, 20KO) first fight under the tutelage of Eddy Reynoso, and he looked sharp tonight.

You could see Reynoso’s influence, and what resulted was Oscar putting Carmine Tommasone (19-1-0, 5KO) down four times, the first time in the 4th round with a counter-cross that hit its mark flush on the chin, the second time occurring at the end of the 4th round with a…body shot that honestly didn’t seem to land…but something must’ve hurt him, so he ended up taking a knee.

The third knockdown happened in the 6th round, as Oscar planted him on his backside with a power jab, and the last one to end the fight, a devastating right uppercut in the beginning of the 7th round that put Tommasone down for good.

This was Valdez 5th successful defense of his WBO title, and he expressed some real interest in a title-unification match with rising superstar & IBF Champion Josh Warrington. In an interesting spectacle, Tommasone after the loss proposed to his girlfriend, and for him everything went as planned, somewhat changing the narrative and stealing the show…safe to say both fighters are winners tonight.
