Ghanaian-born Richard Commey (28-2-0, 25KO) electrified the audience by dominating Russia’s Isa Chaniev (13-2-0, 6KO), putting him down with a sledgehammer left hook that crumbled him in the 2nd round.
Though Chaniev got up, Commey went in for the finish, pummeling him with a barrage of punches, as Referee Laurence Cole stepped in to stop the fight as he slumped down to the canvas, making Commey the IBF Lightweight Champion.
Hats off to Commey for becoming a world titlist and adding to the group of boxers in years past from Ghana that has done the same.
The worst kept secret in boxing is that P4P #1 & unified WBA/WBO Lightweight Champion Vasiliy ‘Hi-Tech’ Lomachenko (12-1-0, 9KO) has tunnel-vision on collecting all 4 world title belts en-route to becoming Undisputed Lightweight Champion, and now that Commey holds one of the belts he covets, there is a high possibility that a fight with Commey may be produced next.
