Haney moves from prospect to contender in ShoBox win

Establishing his strong jab early, Devin Haney (21-0, 10KO) controlled all ten rounds of action on his way to a decisive unanimous decision victory over Xolisani Ndongeni (25-1, 13KO) on Friday night’s first edition of ShowBox for 2019.

A game Ndongeni showed the necessary heart and toughness but was eventually broken down by the body work Haney started putting on him in the mid to late rounds. Ndongeni simply didn’t have much in the power department to hurt Haney and win rounds.

At the end of the fight Haney put the top fighters at lightweight on notice that he was coming for anybody and everybody in the division proclaiming that he was no longer a prospect, “I’m a f*ckin contender!”

It’s hard to disagree, as at the young age of 20, Haney displays patience, sharp reflexes and great hand speed. He appears ready to begin the challenge of taking on fighters in the top 10 of the division and the rumblings should begin for a future matchup with another top lightweight prospect, Teofimo Lopez.
