Ramirez Retains Title in Rematch With Hart

When the final bell rang to bring a close to an explosive final round from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, both Gilberto Ramirez and Jesse Hart believed they had done enough to win the fight Friday night.

In the end, it appears the fight may have been decided by the final round, where Gilberto Ramirez fought through a left arm injury and battled it out almost solely with his right, and even had Hart seriously hurt at a point.

Ringside judge Lynn Carter scored the fight 114-114 while judges Javier Alvarez and Chris Flores both scored it 115-113 for Ramirez. With the majority decision, “Zurdo” retains his WBO World Super Middleweight belt.

The Philadelphia native “Hollywood” Hart, fell short on the cards once again to Ramirez, as he lost the first battle in 2017 by a close unanimous decision (115-112, 115-112, 114-113). For the second time, he left the ring disappointed, feeling he had done enough to leave with the title.

“It was no contest tonight, man,” Hart said.

“I pressured him, I boxed him. I did everything in the world to win this fight. I’m not mad…Gilberto is a good fighter, but I believe I pulled it out tonight. I mean, yeah, he had a good 12th round. OK. But I came back and I hurt him in that same round…”

Ramirez stated that had he not sustained the injury to his left elbow in the eighth round, he would have ended the fight much more decisively.

“I beat him again, no doubts. Had I not injured my left elbow, I would’ve knocked him out. But at the end of the day, I got the victory, once again.”

When asked about doing a third fight with Hart, Ramirez stated that he had no plans to, and if another big fight doesnt present itself at super middleweight, that he will make the move up to the light heavyweight division next year.

With the win Ramirez improves to 39-0, 25KO) while Hart drops to (25-2, 21KO).
