In what will presumably be the 2nd last HBO broadcast before its departure, heavy-handed WBA Light-Heavyweight Champion Dmitry Bivol (14-0-0, 11KO) will vie to make a successful third defense of his title.
Accompanying the ring with him on November 24th is former Light-Heavyweight Champion Jean Pascal (33-5-1, 20KO). For the bulk of his career, Pascal was an explosive athlete with quick hands, who was a handful to deal with. At this juncture of his career, his hands aren’t as fast, and he has slipped from his prime, seeing the culmination of his better days. Nonetheless, at this point in time, he still does hit hard enough to make for an intriguing challenge and will try to give it his best effort in what may be his final shot against elite competition.
Bivol is one of the stand-outs in the division that is seeing an up-tick in top talent from the Russian/Eastern European regions, and he has a diverse skill-set which will come in handy down the road, knowing he doesn’t have to over-rely on his vaunted power. With a potential win here, Bivol could possibly look for unification opportunities with one of the other Champions in the division, so an impressive showing here is important to both increase his star-power and get the big fight that he covets. Tune into HBO, Saturday night to catch this one, which takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City.
